Experience

  • Chemical Engineering Research Assistant, Brigham Young University, Aug 2009-Present
    • Enhanced the Accuracy of Sampled Data by calibrating the lab’s gas chromatographer to report a precise ratio of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide molarity
    • Eliminated the need for 8 man hours/week by automating the gas chromatographer’s data acquisition process
    • Saved the lab over $5000 by building equipment out of existing scrap metals, repairing regulators, and reusing old piping and fittings
    • Received $1800 in grants to fund water-gas shift catalyst development research
  • Alyeska Pipeline Services Company, Valdez, AK, Automation Engineer Intern, May 2011-Aug 2011
    • Lowered operating costs by over $5,000 annually by developing and implementing an alarm inhibiting system into the DCS
    • Substantially reduced the risk of a losing power to the terminal by developing an automated steam leak detection system for the boilers in the power house
    • Decreased average annual repair costs by over $10,000 by installing fuel oil flow control system logic to stabilize the thermal oxidizers
    • Completed 9 work orders which were estimated by the projects team to require a total of 1200 hours, the average intern completed 3 work orders
  • Microsoft, Salt Lake City; Provo, UT, Microsoft Student Partner (Technical Representative), Aug 2008-May 2010
    • Created, planned, and executed weekly software training classes for professors and students with an average attendance of 40 people
